Based in Dallas, Texas, Cynthia Schmidt is counsel in the firm’s litigation group, where she focuses on complex commercial litigation and appeals.
After clerking for Judge Barbara M.G. Lynn, Chief Judge of the Northern District of Texas, Cynthia joined the Dallas office of Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, where she was an active member of the firm’s class actions, commercial litigation, and appellate practice groups. Cynthia has successfully defended clients in cases involving consumer protection statutes, products liability, and data privacy laws. She has extensive experience briefing disputes at all levels of the federal court system. Cynthia is best known for coupling her enthusiasm to serve clients with a deep commitment to mastering the issues at hand.
Cynthia obtained her B.A. in political science and theology from The University of Notre Dame, where she was elected president of her class and vice president of the student body. After graduating, Cynthia attended Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law, during which she interned for the Honorable William H. Pryor, Jr. of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and was the Case Note and Comment Editor of the Law Review. Cynthia graduated Order of the Coif and Magna Cum Laude, then went on to clerk for Judge Barbara M.G. Lynn, Chief Judge of the Northern District of Texas, where she managed half of the court’s civil and criminal dockets and assisted Judge Lynn in her sitting on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Before joining Gibson Dunn, Cynthia completed a brief fellowship at First Liberty Institute, where she focused on religious liberty litigation.
Cynthia is an active member of the local community, volunteering her time in a variety of capacities. She sits on the board of an anti-human trafficking nonprofit, and serves her church community, Saint Rita’s Catholic Church, as a member of the parochial council. She has also recently taught Catholic Social Thought and Public Policy at Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas. Cynthia lives in Dallas with her husband, Grant, a trial attorney, and their four daughters.
